Which of our existing DCs could we close?
142 customer points in France, Germany and Luxembourg, served today from ten DCs. Step the count down and the engine closes the DCs it can least justify.
The question it answers
Brownfield design starts from the sites you have. You aren’t placing new buildings. You’re choosing which of the existing ones to keep. Some DCs can’t close, because of a lease, a key customer or a new automation line, so you pin those open and let the engine choose among the rest.
What you’ll see
All ten DCs open on the map, pinned. The results column lists the current state and the best answer at each DC count, scored by demand times distance. GRAPH shows the score curve for your pins against a run where every site is optional, so you can see what a pin costs.
What to change
- Click a DC to make it optional, or click again to pin it open.
- Step the target count down and see which optional DCs close.
- Pin a DC the engine wanted to close, and watch the curve move.
The subset search runs on the server each time you change the pins or the count.
Where it leads
The same question on a bigger network is Footprint rationalization. Greenfield, brownfield and footprint explains how the three questions differ.
